Overview
The 9120 air drum pump is a pneumatic (air-operated) grease pump that mounts directly onto a standard 120 lb (54.4 kg, about 16 gallon) grease drum. It runs on ordinary shop compressed air at 40-140 psi (3-10 bar), so no electrical supply is needed at the drum. With a 55:1 pressure ratio, the pump moves NLGI #2 grease at a declared output of 0.7 lb/min (317 g/min), feeding grease guns, hose assemblies, or short distribution lines.
Because the air motor does the pumping, the operator only guides the delivery hose or gun. That removes the repeated manual stroking a hand pump demands on thick grease, and output stays consistent from stroke to stroke.

How It Works
Shop air enters through the 1/4″ NPT air inlet and drives the air motor, which powers a reciprocating piston pump at a 55:1 pressure ratio. A suction tube draws grease from the drum; the piston pressurizes it and pushes it out through the 1/4″ NPT outlet. The 3/8″ NPT relief port and supplied return tube vent excess pressure back to the drum.
Maximum declared delivery is 40 cu.in/min (650 cc/min) at 100 psi air supply. Actual output varies with air pressure, air flow, and grease viscosity, so treat the table figures as declared values at stated conditions, not guaranteed field output.
Installation and Use
Set the pump onto the drum with the supplied drum cover and bung adapter, and fit the return tube to the relief port. Connect air through the quick disconnect coupler. An air filter/regulator is strongly recommended: it keeps water and debris out of the air motor and sets the working point inside the 40-140 psi range.
Safety: never over-pressurize the drum; confirm hose and fitting pressure ratings before startup; relieve drum and line pressure before disconnecting; never run the pump dry, since dry running damages the pump elements.
What Is Supplied
The standard supply includes the 9120 pump unit, a 120 lb drum cover, a bung adapter, a return tube, a quick disconnect coupler, and an instruction sheet. Optional items ordered separately include a high-pressure hose, a grease gun or nozzle, a flow meter, a mounting bracket, and an air filter/regulator.
Applications
- Auto repair shops: chassis lubrication and bearing packing
- Manufacturing plants: feed point for central lubrication lines
- Construction: maintenance trucks servicing heavy equipment
- Mining operations: lubrication in dusty, demanding environments
- Agriculture: seasonal maintenance of tractors and implements
- Trucking fleets: regular lubrication in maintenance bays
Maintenance
Inspect the air filter and lubricator, pump seals and valves, and suction and return tubes regularly. Keep the tubes clean so contamination is not drawn into the grease, and replace worn parts per the vendor schedule. If output falls, check air pressure and flow first, then hardened grease or blockage in the suction path. For adapters, spares, or a price, request a quote from our team.
FAQ
What is the 9120 air drum pump?
It is a pneumatic drum pump for dispensing grease from standard 120 lb (54.4 kg) drums. A 55:1 air motor drives the pump from shop compressed air, with no electrical connection required at the drum.
How does the 9120 differ from a 50:1 keg pump?
The 9120 runs a 55:1 ratio with its own air motor, drum cover, and adapter set. The 50:1 keg pump is a separate configuration; see the 120 lb pneumatic grease pump page. Choose by ratio, drum format, and the fittings your lines require.
Does the 9120 fit a 55 gallon (200 litre) drum?
No. The 9120 is sized for 120 lb drums, about 16 gallon. For full-size drums, see the 55 gallon drum grease pump system design guide or the 200 litre drum pump page for metric specifications.
What air supply does the pump need?
A compressed-air source delivering 40-140 psi (3-10 bar) at 5 cu.ft/min (150 L/min). Fit an air filter/regulator to set the pressure and keep the supply clean and dry.
What grease can the 9120 pump?
It is declared for NLGI #2 grease. Output varies with viscosity and temperature, so heavier or colder grease flows slower at the same air pressure.
What output should I expect?
Declared output is 0.7 lb/min (317 g/min), with maximum delivery of 40 cu.in/min (650 cc/min) at 100 psi. Field output depends on air pressure, air flow, and grease condition.
What connections does it use?
A 1/4″ NPT grease outlet, a 1/4″ NPT air inlet, and a 3/8″ NPT relief port. The bung adapter and return tube for drum mounting are supplied.
Can it be configured for other drum sizes?
Family variants of this pump support drum sizes from 35 to 400 lb with the appropriate adapters. Confirm the adapter set for your drum format before ordering.
Which safety points matter most?
Never over-pressurize the drum, install an air filter/regulator, verify hose and fitting pressure ratings, and relieve pressure before disconnecting. Never run the pump dry.
Who makes the 9120 and how do I order?
It is supplied by IsoHiTech Lubrication Systems, founded in 2023, engineering since 2006. For pricing or configuration questions, contact us for a quote or email inquiry@isohitech.com.
