What Is a Lubrication Coupling?

 

A lubrication coupling is a compression or threaded adapter that joins:

  • Tube OD (4 mm, 6 mm, 8 mm nylon/copper) to female thread (PT 1/8, PT 1/4, NPT 1/4)
  • Metering block outlet to secondary distribution line
  • Injector port to branch tubing toward a bearing

Correct coupling selection prevents the two most common field failures: leaks at the seal face and tube pull-out under vibration.

  2. Identify block or injector thread — PT vs NPT vs metric (M8×1, M10×1).
  3. Choose straight or elbow based on bend radius and panel clearance.

  5. Order 10–15% spare couplings per machine for field service kits.

 

Installation Best Practices

 

  • Cut tube square; deburr before insert.
  • Do not overtighten compression nuts — nylon sleeve distortion causes slow leaks.
  • Support tubing with pipe clips within 50 mm of coupling when possible.
  • Apply light thread sealant only where metal-to-metal NPT joints require it; avoid contaminating grease lines.
  • Pressure-test new circuits before production release.
