Drip Oilers | Needle Valve Gravity Feed, 16 – 600 cc

Gravity drip oilers with needle valve control, transparent acrylic reservoir, 16 – 600 cc. No power needed; set the drip, mount 15 cm above the point.

Gravity Drip Oiler Overview

The drip oiler on this page is a gravity-fed single-point lubricator. A needle valve meters oil draining by gravity from a transparent acrylic reservoir, so no electricity or pump is involved. The transparent acrylic reservoir doubles as a sight feed: you watch each drop form through the wall of the reservoir and set the drip rate against the needle valve, which is why catalogs also list this unit as a sight feed oiler or gravity drip oiler. Seven capacities, 16 cc to 600 cc, cover duties from small machines to continuous operation. For routing: high-speed chains sit on the mini automatic chain oiler page, flat-surface oiling with the flat lubrication brush, timed multi-point distribution with the oil lubrication pump category or the automatic lubrication overview.

Turn the needle valve clockwise to slow the drip, counterclockwise to speed it up. The acrylic cup shows oil level and each falling drop, so a stalled drip is visible at a glance. A chrome-plated end cap and oil-resistant sealing rings close the unit. M10, M14x1.5, or M16x1.5 threads keep the range dimensionally compatible with common industrial drip-oiler installations.

Capacity Selection and Mounting Threads

Seven capacities share three mounting threads. Pick by the refill interval you want, not by machine size.

CapacityMounting threadTypical duty
16 ccM10Small machines and compact spaces
25 ccM14x1.5Light machinery
50 ccM14x1.5Standard equipment
100 ccM14x1.5Fewer refills on standard equipment
200 ccM16x1.5Production machinery
400 ccM16x1.5Heavy equipment
600 ccM16x1.5Continuous operation

A 100 cc cup at 10 drops per minute runs about three weeks between refills; the 200 – 600 cc sizes extend it. Threads: M10 on 16 cc, M14x1.5 or M16x1.5 on the rest; confirm yours when ordering.

Mounting and Drip Rate Adjustment

Mount it vertically, directly above the point, at least 15 cm above it; a lower mount weakens the drip and makes the rate wander. Tighten with standard wrenches. Set the drip rate while the machine is running, then recheck the next day after the oil temperature settles; vibration and warm oil both move the drip.

Oil Selection, Viscosity, and Drip Stability

Lower viscosity oil drips more steadily at slow rates; higher viscosity oil needs a wider valve opening. If a thick oil will not drip reliably, move to a lighter grade rather than forcing the valve fully open.

Drip Oilers on Chain Drives

On slow chain drives, aim the outlet at the inner face of the lower strand so gravity works oil into the pins and rollers. Fast chains are different: a gravity drip cannot keep up, and the mini automatic chain oiler takes over.

Maintenance and Common Failures

Wash the sight cup once a year with mild soap to keep it transparent; check the sealing rings every six months. An erratic or stopped drip usually means debris on the needle valve seat, oil too thick, or mounting below the 15 cm minimum; flush the valve and confirm the height before replacing parts.

Honest Limitations

Gravity is the only drive, so flow stays slow and unpressurized. It is single-point: one cup feeds one point, and it cannot join a timed multi-point system. The acrylic sight cup is not impact- or solvent-resistant; shield it where it can be struck or splashed. Only standard mineral oil is in scope, up to the 80°C seal limit, and the cup shows oil level, not flow rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which lubrication jobs suit a drip oiler?

Slow chain drives and single points needing a steady oil feed. High-speed chains go to the mini automatic chain oiler, flat-surface oiling to the flat lubrication brush, timed multi-point distribution to the oil lubrication pump category or the automatic lubrication overview.

Which way do I turn the valve to set the drip rate?

Clockwise slows the drip, counterclockwise speeds it up. Set it while the machine runs, then recheck the next day once oil temperature settles.

How do I choose the capacity?

Choose by refill interval, not machine size. A 100 cc cup at 10 drops per minute runs about three weeks between refills; the 200 – 600 cc sizes extend it.

What mounting position and height does it need?

Vertical, directly above the point, at least 15 cm above it; lower mounts weaken the drip.

Which oil can I use, and how warm can it run?

Standard mineral oil, kept inside the 80°C limit of the oil-resistant sealing rings.

Why does the drip turn unstable or stop?

Usually debris on the needle valve seat, oil too thick, or mounting below the 15 cm minimum. Flush the valve and confirm the height before replacing parts.

Can the sight cup act as a flow meter?

No. The cup shows oil level and falling drops, not measured flow; drop size varies with temperature and viscosity.

How does viscosity change the setting?

Lighter oil drips more steadily at slow rates; heavier oil needs a wider valve opening. If it still will not drip reliably, change to a lighter grade.

How often does the drip oiler need maintenance?

Wash the sight cup once a year with mild soap; check the sealing rings every six months and replace any that show set or weeping.
