JRB-3 Foot Grease Pump | 40 MPa | 3 mL per Stroke

The JRB-3 foot grease pump delivers 3 mL per pedal stroke at pressures up to 40 MPa. A 9 L reservoir and G1/4 outlet serve overhaul and field greasing.

What Is the JRB-3 Foot Grease Pump

If you are buying by the JRB-3 model spec, this is the right page: a foot pedal manual reciprocating piston pump with a fixed 3 mL per stroke displacement and a maximum working pressure of 40 MPa. For a general-duty 12 L foot pump, see the 12 L foot operated grease pump page.

The JRB-3 is built for overhaul work and field maintenance where no power is available. The pedal drives a piston through a linkage, an intake check valve draws grease from the 9 liter reservoir, and the pressure stroke forces it out through the G1/4 inch female outlet. A follower plate follows the grease down and minimizes air pockets, and the fill port carries a strainer.

Technical Specifications

Every figure below is a declared value for the JRB-3. Pedal effort rises with grease grade, cold temperature and hose length; the numbers describe output. The pump is rated for NLGI 0-2 grease and oils up to N100 viscosity, and it works between -10°C and +80°C.

How It Works

The pedal drives the piston through a linkage. On the upstroke, the intake check valve opens and draws grease from the reservoir into the piston chamber. On the pressure stroke, that valve closes and the grease is forced out through the G1/4 inch female outlet into the delivery hose. Each full stroke moves 3 mL, so injected volume is easy to count.

A follower plate rests on the grease surface and travels down as the reservoir empties. It keeps the grease in contact with the intake and minimizes air pockets. With fixed displacement it fills central reservoirs, injects bearings during overhaul, and handles field work without power.

Where the 40 MPa Rating Matters

High pressure is what lets the JRB-3 push NLGI 2 grease through 10 m of hose, overcome clogged or dry fittings, and fill elevated central pump reservoirs that a low-pressure transfer pump cannot reach. At 40 MPa output, a 10 m by 6 mm hose delivers roughly 30-35 MPa at the nozzle.

This is a portable manual maintenance pump, not a continuous-duty centralized system supply pump. For that duty, an electric or pneumatic pump is the correct choice.

Setup and Maintenance

Set the pump on a level, rigid floor so the pedal stroke stays stable. Fill the reservoir to about 90 percent, connect a high-pressure hose rated 40 MPa with a G1/4 inch male end, then pedal 5-10 times to purge air before you connect the coupler to the fitting. Use smooth full strokes rather than short jabs.

Wipe the linkage and reservoir daily and inspect the hose for abrasion or ballooning. Check the reservoir level weekly before the follower plate bottoms out, because dry running destroys the piston seal. Inspect the outlet thread and coupler monthly, and inspect the piston seal quarterly for leakage, pressure loss or air sucking. Flush the reservoir annually when you change grease type, and never mix incompatible thickeners: lithium complex with calcium sulfonate hardens and blocks the pump.

What Is Supplied

Each JRB-3 comes with a high-pressure delivery hose, a quick-connect coupler and a pressure gauge, with the gauge supplied model dependent. Confirm the exact accessory set when you request a quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the JRB-3 a centralized system pump?

No, it is a portable manual maintenance pump. It fills central reservoirs, injects bearings during overhaul, and supports field work.

How many strokes does one bearing need?

No fixed number applies. Follow the machine lubrication chart; at 3 mL per stroke, 10 strokes deliver 30 mL.

Can it run continuously?

No, an operator pedals every stroke, so output stops when pedaling stops. Electric or pneumatic pumps serve continuous duty.

Which grease consistency works best?

NLGI 0-2 grease is the declared range. NLGI 1 or NLGI 0 flows easier in cold conditions and reduces pedal effort.

Why does the pedal feel stiff after new grease?

Thicker grease or cold raises resistance in hose and fittings. Switch grade, warm the reservoir, or check the strainer.

What are the signs of a worn piston seal?

Watch for linkage leakage, a soft hose under full force, or air sucking on intake. Replace the seal immediately.

What is the hose length limit?

The declared maximum recommended hose length is 10 m. At that length roughly 30-35 MPa reaches the nozzle.

Can it pump oil?

Yes, up to N100 viscosity. Thin oils leak past the piston seal and are not recommended.

How do you clean it when switching grease types?

Pump out the old grease, scrape the reservoir, and wipe with a compatible solvent, then dry. Never mix incompatible thickeners.
