What the LAPV Valve Does
The LAPV non-return valve allows oil to flow in one direction only, preventing backflow and drain-back from the lubrication point. This aftermarket replacement is offered in two thread sizes, LAPV1/8 and LAPV1/4, for oil lubrication lines. SKF is a trademark of its respective owner. This is an aftermarket valve, not manufactured, sponsored, or endorsed by SKF. LAPV designations are for cross-reference identification only.
When the lubricator stops or pressure drops, the valve closes and keeps the oil line filled. That protects the bearing point from dry starts and keeps the oil film where it belongs. The valve body is brass with nickel plating, the spring is stainless steel, and the poppet is hardened steel.

Where to Install It
Install the valve between the lubricator and the lubrication point, as close to the point as practical. The flow arrow on the body must point toward the lubrication point. Shorter line runs after the valve reduce the oil volume that can drain back.
The valve is not a pressure regulator and not a shut-off valve. It does not adjust pressure, and it does not close manually. Its only job is to stop reverse flow.
Use with System 24 and LAGD Lubricators
SKF guidance for oil-filled System 24 LAGD lubricator installations says a non-return valve should be used in the line. The LAGD lubricator itself runs at only a few bar, so the 300 bar rating belongs to the valve body, not to the lubricator assembly. That pressure capacity covers the valve housing and internals, not the drive pressure of the lubricator.
For general information on automatic lubrication, see automatic lubrication. SKF lists these valves as accessories across its lubrication systems. You can also review SKF metering devices for related line components.
Oil Service and Seal Choice
These are valves for oil applications per SKF catalog guidance. Do not assume grease service. Confirm lubricant compatibility before use in grease systems.
Choose NBR seals for mineral oils in standard temperature ranges. Choose FKM seals for higher temperatures or synthetic lubricants. If the oil type is uncertain, confirm seal compatibility before installation.
Installation Notes
BSPP is a parallel thread, not a tapered NPT thread. The valve seats on a bonded washer or dowty seal at the port face. Do not use tapered thread tape meant for NPT.
Typical tightening torque is 15-20 Nm for G1/8 and 25-30 Nm for G1/4. Confirm against the current installation sheet before final torque. Keep thread sealant out of the valve, because excess material can enter the poppet seat and block flow.
After fitting, pressure-test the line briefly to confirm no weeping at the port. A small leak at the parallel seat is usually a washer problem, not a valve fault. For thread type comparisons, see fitting types. If you need help selecting a valve, use contact for a quote.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the LAPV valve actually do?
It stops oil from flowing back toward the lubricator. The valve keeps the line filled after each lubrication pulse.
Which size should I pick, LAPV1/8 or LAPV1/4?
Match the valve thread to your existing port thread. G1/8 suits smaller ports, while G1/4 allows the higher flow.
Does orientation matter when installing the valve?
Yes, the flow arrow must point toward the lubrication point. There is no universal vertical mounting rule for these valves.
Is this valve for oil or grease?
SKF lists these valves for oil applications. Confirm lubricant compatibility before use in grease systems.
Does the valve replace a pressure regulator?
No, the valve does not regulate pressure. It only blocks reverse flow in the line.
Will it work with SKF System 24 LAGD lubricators?
Yes, SKF guidance says oil-filled lubricator installations should use a non-return valve. The valve body rating is separate from the lubricator pressure.
What tightening torque should I use?
Typical values are 15-20 Nm for G1/8 and 25-30 Nm for G1/4. Confirm against the current installation sheet before assembly.
Is the thread BSPP or NPT?
The thread is BSPP parallel, not tapered NPT. Use the correct parallel-thread sealing washer, not NPT tape.
Where in the line should the valve go?
Install it close to the lubrication point, after the lubricator. Shorter downstream line length reduces drain-back volume.
