Spray Cutting Coolant Sprayer

Mist coolant sprayer with magnetic base for CNC machining. 2mm nozzle, separate air and coolant knobs, 1.5 m hose, 1-3 liter tank, 0.15-21 kg/cm2 range.

Overview

The spray cutting coolant sprayer delivers coolant as a controlled mist directly into the cutting zone. Compressed air atomizes the fluid at a 2mm nozzle, so the cutting edge receives cooling and lubrication without flooding the work area. Air flow and coolant flow are adjusted on two separate knobs, allowing the operator to tune the output from a fine, nearly dry mist to a wetter, heavier spray as the job requires.

The unit mounts on a magnetic base that fixes to any steel machine surface, and the nozzle sits on a flexible hose so it can be aimed and repositioned as the toolpath changes. A 1.5 m suction hose with a brass filter draws coolant from a tank of 1-3 liter capacity. This unit is a coolant sprayer for machining; for lubricant delivery nozzles rather than coolant mist, see the spray nozzle range.

Setup and Adjustment

Basic setup takes only a few steps:

  1. Fix the magnetic base to a steel surface on the machine.
  2. Connect the compressed air line.
  3. Fill the tank with coolant.
  4. Open the air supply first, then adjust coolant flow.
  5. Aim the nozzle at the cutting zone and fine-tune both knobs.

Parameter guidance for common situations:

  • Light cuts: less coolant, more air.
  • Heavy cuts: more coolant, steady air.
  • Aluminum: higher air flow helps prevent chips from sticking to the tool.
  • Steel: balance air and coolant flow.

Applications

CNC milling: suitable for face milling and end milling, cooling the cutting edge without flooding the work area.

Lathe work: the flexible nozzle can be positioned to follow the tool through turning operations.

Drilling: keeps drill bits cool, especially in deep holes, and helps clear chips away from the cutting edge.

Engraving: the fine mist does not block the view of the work the way flood coolant does, which matters on detailed toolpaths.

Safety and Maintenance

Wear eye protection whenever the sprayer is running. Provide good shop ventilation, which is mandatory when working with alcohol-based coolants because of their vapours; keep such fluids away from ignition sources. Keep the air pressure within the declared operating range, and inspect hoses and fittings regularly for wear.

For cleaning, flush the unit with clean water or a suitable solvent at the end of the shift, and clean or replace the brass pickup filter when flow drops. Two limitations are worth stating plainly: thick, oil-heavy coolants can clog the 2mm nozzle, so use water-based or synthetic fluids; and mist cooling does not replace flood cooling where the cut generates heavy, continuous heat that must be carried away in volume.

FAQ

What is a mist coolant sprayer?

It is a machining accessory that uses compressed air to break coolant into a fine mist and direct it at the cutting zone, providing cooling and lubrication with far less fluid than flood cooling.

What air supply does it need?

Ordinary shop compressed air is sufficient. Operate within the declared pressure range of 0.15-21 kg/cm2; no special compressor is required.

Which coolants are compatible?

Water-oil emulsions for general machining, synthetic coolants, and alcohol-based fluids where ventilation is adequate. Thick oil-based fluids are not recommended.

Will thick or oil-heavy coolant work?

Usually not. Viscous fluids can clog the 2mm nozzle. Use water-based or synthetic coolants, and keep the pickup filter clean.

How do I set it for aluminum versus steel?

For aluminum, use higher air flow to help prevent chips from sticking to the tool. For steel, balance air and coolant flow. Adjust from there based on the cut.

How much coolant does a mist system use?

Much less than flood cooling. How long the 1-3 liter tank lasts depends on your coolant flow setting and how many hours the machine cuts per shift.

When should I use flood cooling instead?

Where the cut produces heavy, continuous heat that must be removed in volume, such as aggressive roughing, flood cooling remains the appropriate method. Mist cooling suits finishing, medium cuts, and operations where a clear view matters.

How does it mount to the machine?

The magnetic base attaches to any steel surface: mills, lathes, drill presses and similar machines. No drilling or modification is needed.

How do I clean and maintain it?

Flush clean water or solvent through the unit at the end of each shift, clean or replace the brass filter when flow drops, and inspect hoses and fittings regularly.
