VSL-KR Dual-Line Metering Valve

VSL-KR dual-line metering valve with stepless 0-5 cm3 discharge per stroke, a 35 bar minimum cycling pressure, and a 400 bar rating for dual-line systems.

What a VSL-KR Does in a Dual-Line System

The VSL-KR is the metering endpoint of a dual-line lubrication system. Each valve receives pressure from one of two supply lines and discharges a set volume of grease or oil to a single bearing point. The discharge volume is steplessly adjustable from 0 to 5 cm3 per stroke. The valve cycles when line pressure reaches at least 35 bar and is rated for continuous operation up to 400 bar.

A complete dual-line chain starts with the pump, which feeds the reversing valve. The reversing valve alternates pressure between two supply lines. Each VSL-KR meters one bearing outlet when its supply line is pressurized. The chain includes the BSB dual-line grease pump, which supplies the base pressure, the DR4-5 change valve, which alternates the two lines, and the 24EJF-P directional valve, which routes the alternating pressure. The VSL-KR completes the set by metering each bearing outlet.

Valves can be ganged on a manifold for up to 10 cm3 per point. The body is galvanized carbon steel with a 316Ti stainless option. Seals are NBR for -20 to +80 °C or FKM for temperatures up to +120 °C. Inlet ports are G3/8 BSPP or 3/8 in. NPTF. Outlet ports are G1/4 BSPP or 1/4 in. NPTF.

The valve accepts grease from NLGI 0 to 2. Oil use requires VG 68 and above. Any mounting orientation is permitted. The indicator pin shows that the valve has stroked. It is a cycle indicator, not a delivered-volume gauge.

Setting the Discharge

Discharge per stroke is set by turning the adjusting spindle. Each full turn changes the output by 0.15 cm3. The range runs from 0 to 5 cm3 per stroke. The spindle is stepless, so any value within the range can be set.

For bearings that need more than 5 cm3 per stroke, two or more valves can be ganged on one manifold. The combined output reaches up to 10 cm3 per point. Each valve in the gang still meters independently. The manifold must be confirmed for cross-porting when ordering.

Set the discharge before the valve is pressurized. The spindle position is not a delivered-volume gauge. The indicator pin only confirms that the valve has stroked.

Indicator Pin, Honestly

The indicator pin shows that the valve has stroked. It is a cycle indicator, not a delivered-volume gauge. A raised pin means the valve received line pressure and cycled. It does not prove that grease reached the bearing.

Do not use the pin to verify output volume. The pin does not measure the amount discharged. The only way to confirm delivered volume is to set the adjusting spindle and verify the system pressure cycle.

The pin is useful for visual confirmation during commissioning. It shows that the valve is responding to line pressure. It does not replace a flow check at the bearing point.

Detector and Material Suffixes

SuffixMeaning
KRBase valve with NBR seals
KRFKMFKM seals
VAStainless steel body
NPPiston detector
KNProximity switch
KSLimit switch

The KR suffix is the base valve with NBR seals. KRFKM specifies FKM seals for temperatures up to +120 °C. VA specifies a 316Ti stainless body. NP adds a piston detector. KN adds a proximity switch. KS adds a limit switch.

Detector and switch options provide electrical confirmation of the valve stroke. They do not change the discharge range or the pressure rating. Confirm the exact suffix combination when ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the valve need 35 bar minimum line pressure?

The valve needs at least 35 bar of line pressure to complete a stroke. Below that pressure the valve will not cycle.

What does the indicator pin actually show?

The indicator pin shows that the valve has stroked. It is a cycle indicator and does not prove grease delivery.

Should I choose BSPP or NPTF ports?

The port type must match the manifold threads. Confirm your manifold thread before ordering the valve.

Why is VG 68 the boundary for oil use?

The valve meters oil from VG 68 and above. Confirm suitable oils for your application when ordering.

How do I gang valves for large bearings?

Gang two or more valves on one manifold for up to 10 cm3 per point. Each valve in the gang still meters independently.

What do the VA, NP, KN, and KS suffixes add?

VA specifies a 316Ti stainless body. NP, KN, and KS add a piston detector, proximity switch, and limit switch.

Do I need to confirm cross-porting for my manifold?

Cross-porting depends on the manifold layout. Confirm cross-porting for your manifold when ordering.

Where does the VSL-KR sit in the dual-line chain?

The pump feeds the reversing valve, which alternates pressure between two supply lines. Each VSL-KR then meters one bearing outlet.

What grease range does the valve accept?

The valve accepts grease from NLGI 0 to 2. Higher NLGI numbers mean stiffer grease.
